Kai

Kai is a boy living in constant fear of his father and his peers. Being the only child of his parents he's suffered from being over protected.

Bullied by Baxter of The Wolf Pack in particular, Kai has had to thieve from his own parents shop to survive. The vision of Baxters knife blade hovering infront of his eyes has been his last thought before he’s slept many a night.

His passion in life is motor kart racing, which his friend Boo has taught him. Kai has shown to be a skillful kart racer, but Boo is dead against him entering the most dangerous of races. Kai knows the risk involved but dreams of winning the deadly race.

He works in his parents shop full time for no pay. He delivers customer orders of groceries and hardware throughout the town, on his sturdy and trusty Tank Kart. He collects tips and spends time with Boo and Maureen and Bernie on his rounds.

Butler

Boris Butler is a complexed individual, a teenager who seems to have lived many lives already. He has a dark secret, which he’s tried to block out from his memory. He’s also lived with guilt for his mother's death, whom he believes he could have saved, if he wasn’t at a house party till the early hours of the morning.

A skilled boatsman and handy mechanic, Butler grew up in affluent surroundings due to his father Owen's and Grandad the Mayor of Greightown's wealth. Yet all he wanted was to fit in, he was often shunned by the other kids for his bloodline connection to the Mayor.

At his lowest point he joined The Wolf Pack, making his popularity in the town declining even more. When he’s not with his gang, he’s seen pushing his younger brother Kope around the town in a skate kart. People deem this to be odd as Kope can walk and he’s oversized for the pushchair which is attached to the skateboard which Butler rides.

Joy

Joy was brought up by her now deceased grandparents on a farm in Sewin, a country which her and her mother fled, hidden in the basement of a boat. She loved all the farm animals, and her daily chores including feeding, cleaning barns and giving them medicene when needed.  She was shown the reality of life and death when the animals had to be put down, her grandfather teaching her how to shoot a shotgun when it was their time to gom She cried everytime, but refused her Grandfather ‘s offers to do it for her.

He relationship with her father was close, they would go to the Dragon Boat Festival every year. Yet she never felt comfortable in the city. For the last year, she had been living in the city since her grandparents died in a vehicle related accident.

She always felt like an outsider with her class mates, none of whom grew up on a farm. The Feisty side of Joy would be brought out when bullies tried to attack her. Joy would always win and had built up a reputation not to be crossed.  Quick to temper, she would often jump to conclusions and act upon them. Many times she would be told to apologise to parents of children who had suffered broken noses from a swing of her notorious red wellington boots.

Kai’s Father

A handsome and charismatic man in his youth, he dreamed of becoming a movie actor. The eldest of nine children, he was under pressure to support his parents financially. He modelled for different brands, often appearing on billboards, becoming a local celebrity as a result. He saved enough money to start acting lessons, but could only secure bit parts, his lack of literacy being his stumbling block to the bigger roles. His big break came by the way of saving an old woman from a car crash, pulling her out of the wreckage before the car exploded. The old woman was the mother of a movie director, who had the perfect role for him. The audition was passed, the lines were adapted for him, but his own flesh and blood, scuppered his plans. Since then he has been an angry man, full of resentment.

Kai’s Mother

A woman who had a career as a pharmacist,  she never thought marriage would be a part of her life. Yet at the age of thirty eight, a mutual friend introduced her to the handsome man that would become her husband. She is a soft woman with a strong and stubborn streak which she rarely shows. Kai’s father respects her and she keeps him calm, and away from the temptations of illegal activities. She is a spiritual woman who’s incredible instincts have kept her husband and son from many dangerous situations. With her pharmaceutical background, she is an amazing cook, measuring ingredients without the need for a scale. She is consulted by all of the women who cook and bake in the town. She is a very over protective mother, quite understandablely, after having five miscarriages.

Owen Butler

Owner of an independent export company, Owen spends half his time at sea. Owen's grandfather was Perry Greighton's Butler, so when he began courting Mayor Greighton’s daughter Christine, the Mayor was against their union. But love prevailed and they wed against the wishes of the Mayor. This created tension between the two men, but the Mayor did help Owen with a string of business, the illegal kind, exporting stolen goods, drugs and exotic animals far and wide. After the death of his daughter who died in childbirth, his wife was never the same. Owen began drinking too much alcohol, he ended up fighting his brother who dissapeared, rumours were rife that Owen killed him and dumped his body at sea.

His life spiralled when his wife Christine, died, under mysterious circumstances. Owen became a single father to his two sons, Boris and Kope. He continued to drink alcohol and spent more time at sea, leaving his teenage sons to fend for themselves.

Lina

Lina grew up on her parents farm, always dreaming of leaving the rural life she was living. One day one of her parents regular customers, a vegetable shop owner came to the farm to pay his debts. However, he didn’t come with money, instead he brought his late wife's grand piano. Lina became obsessed with the piano, playing it  night and day, learning from books her father bought her from the town. She eventually saved enough money up to study music in the city college. From there she played in the opera house. She was living her dream, but then she met Joys father, a farm hand whom she fell in love with and fell pregnant to. The two married and they ended up buying a florist shop in the city. Lina suffered from post natal depression and so her parents brought her daughter to the farm to raise. Joy resented Lina for not being there for her formative years but doted over her father whom she saw as a hero. Lina has always felt guilty about this but is a fiercely protective mother. Before her husband supposedly died on a rescue mission at sea, he trained her in the art of jujitsu. Lina was a great student and won her first jujitsu competition the day her husband supposedly died.

Mr Wardley

A prize winning dancer in his youth, the tall and svelt man who is approaching retirement age is also a man of few words.

 

He worked as the janitor of the now closed Greightown school for twenty five years. The Mayor presented him with a gold watch at a special ceremony for him, to mark the occasion. But to the shock of the townsfolk, Mr Wardley, threw it onto the floor and stomped his shoe on it.

The ceremony happened after his wife had died and Mr Wardley had been questioned regarding the death of the Doctor in the town, as he was seen walking around in the early hours of the morning with a gun in his hand.

Mr Wardley has rarely been seen in the town and doesn’t speak or acknowledge anyone when greeted by them.

Hagne

The sister of Marta and sister in law of Jorge is notorious for a certain embarrassing act that she involuntarily performs throughout the town. Hagne is the daughter of a high ranking Army Officer, she was so attached to her father that she covertly became a stowaway and ended up going to war with him. 


She grew up on a farm with her mother and father and sister Marta. But being socially awkward she preferred to tend to the farm instead of going out with friends. Her father taught her how to use a rifle to ward off pests. After coming back from a tour of duty, Hagne showed him her sniper skills, which he was surprised by. He described them as being world class. 


Yet when she was at the war, she was reduced to being a tea lady in her regiment. She came back withdrawn and seemingly even more introvert than before.

Sheriff Cane Baylor

A sheriff with a shady past, was headhunted by Mayor Greighton to keep order in the town. A former soldier, Cane left the military under a dark cloud. When his brother was killed in action, he was accused of killing a troop of eight un armed enemy soldiers as they slept. The evidence wasn’t strong enough to convict him, but he felt it was best to leave and start afresh. He was recruited by Mayor Greighton as a personal bodyguard, knowing that the gangster he owed money too, Chong Li was after him. Cane realised the situation was severe when he killed two of Chong Li’s paid killers to assassinate the Mayor. He struck a deal with the Mayor, to be paid upfront for five years as the Sheriff of the town and to extract the Mayor out of the country safely.

Baxter

One of seven children, Baxter grew up in relative poverty. His father would spend the grocery funds, on moonshine and gambling. This would mean Baxter would sometimes have to eat dog food to survive the extreme hunger he and his siblings would suffer. He was fearful of his father who would sometimes hit Baxters mother with a frying pan. Baxter didn’t go home much, preferring to sleep in a disused caravan on Cole Judges property. In return for rent, Baxter would do the jobs no one else would do like cleaning and thieving to order for his landlord Cole Judge. He hates anyone who defies him or his Wolk Pack buddies. He is small in stature but handy with a flick knife and not afraid to use it. He’s loud, always trying to intimidate his peers by shouting. Yet in private times, he often cries, struggling to be who he is.

Judge

Joseph Judge is the leader of the notorious Wolf Pack. He has been a bully since he was a young child. He was brought up to be a criminal by his sole parent, Cole Judge. He rules by fear, but lives in fear of his father who takes rent from him every month. If Judge doesn’t pay on time, he’s severely punished, his back bares the scars from being belted and electrocuted by his father. Judge has had scrapes with the law his whole life but has somehow stayed out of jail. He saw the opportunity to recruit Leighton and made him a moonshine operation in a disued caravan on his father’s property. Judge recruited Baxter for The Wolf Pack as he is very much the opposite of Judge. Judge is generally quiet, a young man of few words but full of bad intentions.

Leighton Biggs

Leighton is the eldest child of Marlon and Enola and the largest in stature by far. Leighton wasn’t the most studious at school but his size and athletic prowess gave him a chance to succeed. That was until his father made the decision to move to Greightown. Leighton's dreams of being a sports star were over. Instead he became the punching bag for his father’s rages as he tried to protect his mother. He was trained by his father to make moonshine. His father was happy with him and life seemed to be better. But when Marlon had as he described the worst day of his life, Leighton fled the home and left his mother and younger brothers in their time of need.

Marlon Biggs

The father of the Hats and Leighton and husband to Enola Biggs has dissapeared. Rumours of him fleeing the town with the Mayor for money are rife. Other rumours include him being killed by his sons, a rumour which has made the town even more fearful of the soul singing trio.

Marlon was a croupier in the city casino, a casino which Mayor Greighton would often frequent. Marlon and the Mayor teamed up successfully for years, scamming the casino. Until they were caught.

The Mayor used his connections in the city to free them both from punishment. However Marlon was dismissed from his work and left jobless, resorting to illegal activities to stay afloat. He eventually cashed his last chip in with the Mayor, blackmailing him for a home and a new life in Greightown.

When he lost his job in the Greighton Furniture factory for lack of attendance, he resorted to making moonshine, selling it to the many tree loggers who loved his “Island Style” moonshine.

Enola Biggs

The daughter of a pastor, Enola fell in love young and ran away from her strict family to elope with Marlon. They travelled the country, living a life of freedom, Marlon a musician would take gigs wherever he could to support their travels. But when he was shot in a back alley after a gig, his ability to play an instrument was gone. Bitter and angry, Marlon and Enola had to settle in the city, Enola took a job in a supermarket, sometimes arriving to work with a black eye. Marlon, trained to become a croupier, which gave him access to alcohol, making Enolas life a misery. Enola a beautiful woman, never struggled for suitors. But her nurturing in the church environment stopped her from leaving Marlon. She had four children, three boys and one girl who tragically died due to a gang called “The Force”.

Bernie Crouch

A hard working mechanic, who grew up by the sea, Bernie was destined to work on boats. But due to sea sickness, his passion for fixing things turned his fate towards becoming a mechanic. He was head hunted to the town by the Mayor to keep the many variety of vehicles in the Greighton Furniture operation in tip top condition. A jovial man with a cheeky side, Bernie's height caused him issues. He banged his head daily as he was too tall for ceilings and door frames.

 

He has great enthusiasm for racing karts, much to the annoyance of his wife Maureen. They entered every annual motor kart race since they started.  However a lack of weaponry or technical issues due to Bernie’s elaborate designs would ultimately be their downfall.

Bernie’s is a certified hoarder. His workshop is filled with clutter, including 21 drills, 13 chainsaws, 8 broken personal cassette players, 7 unusable beta max players, 15 radios and 32 complete sets of screwdrivers. Maureen dreams of the day when she can clear the clutter and make the workshop into her own personal sanctuary.

Boo

A loner who lives by the forest river banks, Boo acts as the fireman of the town and the guardian of the vast forest. A veteran of war, he lives by his own code and is short of company apart from Kai who delivers goods to him every week. Boo's past is filled with mystery, the townsfolk speculate on how he ended up owning the land where he built his home. Some say he knows too many of the Mayor’s secrets, some think he’s secretly paid by the Mayor to guard the forest.

A keen motorcyclist in his younger days, Boo has moved onto building some of the most powerful motor karts, many of which Kai has been given the pleasure of test driving around the forest track near Boo's home.

A man with a keen sweet tooth, Boo suffers from gout attacks which are debilitating for him.

Yet he’s a man of habit and stubbornness prevents him from making changes to his mostly quiet life and routine.

Mayor Greighton

The son of Perry Greighton, a millionaire who bought Greightown a month before his suspicious death. Hamish Greighton inherited Greightown on his birthday and created the furniture factories, hundreds of homes and jobs over the next five years.

He travelled far and wide to head hunt the best people he could to run the factories. Some of those didn’t seem to have any background with the making of furniture, much to the suspicion of the town. The Mayor would export the furniture worldwide, across the seas. Rumours were that he would export illegal products aswell, but was never caufht. Life was good for the money hungry mayor, yet when his wife died of cancer, he became bitter and the 25th    annual parade of Greightown was the last time he was seen. After seeing so many happy faces, he couldn’t understand how he of all people was the unhappinest man in the town. So he fled, with all the money he had and money he owed to Chong Li, who sent his men to scour the globe to find him. He’s now rumoured to being held hostage by Chong Li and tortured daily.

Mort

Known to everyone in his former school as the “Mort the Millionaire”, which infact was incorrect as his parents are billionaires. He grew up in the city, with a life of privilege, but one mistake sealed him a one-way ticket to live with his Grandfather Mr. Dialotta.

Mort a keen inventor like his Grandfather, had received a gift from him for his birthday. The teenage boy was understandably excited about it. On the box it said, “For the winning moment”. Mr Dialotta was referring to the National Championships football final. Mort’s parents owned the City Football league team, Savannah Storm.  They were playing Falcon Ridge Fury in the final of the championships on Mort’s Birthday. Mort attended the match, but the moment he let the motorised flying bird out of the box, was a moment he would live to regret. The bird was draped in ribbons, black and yellow, the colours of Savannah Storm. But when Savannah were about to kick the potentially winning field goal, the remote control malfunctioned. The motorised bird flew up high and directly collided with the ball, sending it past the post, and wide of the goal. The remote-controlled bird fell to it’s demise, smashing into pieces.  Mort was banished to Greightown immediately.

He had made a great friend in Kai, whom he spent most of the time protecting from gang members, who were looking to prey on easy targets. He lived in Mr Dialotta’s home, a grand house in the forest. Yet ultimately his mouth and his prankster nature antagonised The Wolf Pack and they chased him through the vast forest, Mort has never been seen again.

Deevon & Drayvon

The twins are the shortest of the Biggs brothers, but what they lack in height, they make up in loyalty and determination.  Capable of fighting larger opponents when teamed up together, the two boys sing with Tall Boy every day in Shop Street.

They prefer to use weapons rather than their fists and often practise knife throwing and hitting things with  baseball bats in their garden. They sing in soprano style voices and at school they were very popular with girls.

They were often used by their father on thefts during the night time, due to their diminutive sizes. Hard to spot and easier for them to get through small gaps, they made great thieves which often spared them from their father’s wrath as he knew their worth to him.

Maureen Cosgrove

The former school secretary is a born leader, a disciplinarian, balanced with a big heart. She grew up in Middleton, near the Forest of Bandits, which taught her how to be street smart and to survive dangerous situations. Maureen enjoyed travelling in her youth, she met her husband Bernie at the docks where he worked as a mechanic.

Her car had broken down and she was running late to catch her ship. Bernie, passed by her and saw that she was in distress. Knowing he would be late for the start of his shift, he still fixed her car on his way to work and they promised to meet when she returned from her cruise. They married within a year and when going on their honeymoon, Bernie’s car broke down, making them laugh and cuddle as they sheltered in the car overnight.

As a school secretary she acted as a makeshift security guard for the headmaster who had a range of enemies. She also protected the bullied children, like Kai , by letting them hide in her office, giving them cookies and cocoa as long as they did their schoolwork.

Maureen is often found tending to her garden, warding off anyone who dares to try and steal her award winning flowers.

Jimmy Dialotta

Know to the townsfolk as Mr Dialotta, he and his wife arrived in Greightown in a limousine and are now both buried in coffins at the town’s cemetery. 

A former military man, Mr Dialotta achieved a high ranking, but his work cost many enemy soldiers their lives. Mr Dialotta felt the weight of their deaths as he saw them being obliterated with the new weaponry he had invented. Soon after he left the military, going as far as refusing the President’s request for him to stay.

Mr Dialotta was head hunted by the Mayor who had seen the headlines of his military departure.  The genius inventor who some say was way ahead of his time. He created machinery to help the Greightown furniture factories double their output within a year, at the cost of many jobs.

Mr Dialotta was moved from the furniture factories to a special facility the Mayor had set up for him. The building was heavily guarded and shrouded in secrecy. But whatever work was happening was halted abruptly when Mr Dialotta’s wife died under mysterious circumstances. He and the Mayor was seen arguing at the factory offices and within one week, Mr Dialotta was being buried in the Greightown cemetery.

Tall Boy

The tall and slender teenager is the youngest of the Biggs brothers but the tallest. He leads with a calm demeanour but is the most vicious of all the brothers. A skilled fighter and knife thrower, he is feared throughout Greightown more than any other person.

Tall boy has always been the natural leader of The Hats, his baritone voice, pierces through Shop Street every day, After the disappearance of his father, Tall Boy lead Deevon and Drayvon to Shop Street to earn money to support their mother. He is a student of music, a versatile singer of soul, the blues and reggae. When Tall Boy’s hat is filled with money, he’s happy and sings more reggae, yet early in the morning, he leads his brothers in singing the blues.

He is observant of everyone and everything happening in the town.  He allows gangs to operate in the town but if they cross the line, like some have in the past, they will feel the full force of his wrath.

Sam

Sam is a former military communications expert who was banished from the front line for being too vicious. The son of a wealthy man, Sam was destined for a life in the corporate would like his father. However, his temper would often get the better of him and his father realised his son wasn’t suited to the finance sector.

He was given an option by his father, to start a business his father would fund, or to go back to college to study. He took neither, and joined the military instead. Sam was a feared boxer in the armed forces, winning titles in every division he competed in.

He lost the use of one of his eyes as a result if an accident. A rookie soldier shot him on a training exercise, he decided to leave the military with a substantial sum of compensation.

He arrived in Greightown after seeing the town had vacant premises on Shop Street. He opened a repair store which also sells televisions, radios, walkie talkies and binoculars along with other miscellaneous items. He never gives discounts but is open to making a shady deal if there are high value items involved.

Otto

A former military man, Otto is a man who prefers to spend his time at sea rather than on land. He arrived in the town after saving Owen Butler from a bar fight, despite being outnumbered four to one.

Otto had just arrived back from a funeral for a former fisherman friend whom he had known since childhood. After disposing of the four men, Owen took him to a seafood restaurant to sober up, where he ordered and made his way through the entire menu. He was convinced by Owen to travel the seas with him, being his right hand man. It didn’t take much to convince the burly man as he wanted a fresh start far away from his homeland.

Otto is a fair man, one who stands for justice and is respected by the townsfolk for not only his size but his morale compass.
